White Rock news
by Pam Schofield (pamschofield@auracom.com)
Hello everyone, and welcome to the last community news for the month of July. How times goes.
A reminder to anyone interested in having their child in the summer hockey programs; the league starts Aug. 9. If you haven’t registered, you better do it quick.
There are summer hockey leagues in Kentville and Wolfville and probably other areas, but I don’t know the specifics. Check with the minor hockey league in your area for more information.
Soccer is in full swing and probably there are tournaments every weekend. I know that the New Minas Invitational Soccer Tournament takes place the weekend of Aug. 9. Make sure to watch a game or two as well as watch out for the children when you’re driving. There will be a lot of soccer players of various ages.
Congratulations to Carla Levy and Shane MacLean of Gaspereau on their upcoming wedding Aug. 2. Congratulations also to Tony Oickle and Carrie Kennedy on their upcoming wedding Aug. 16.
Happy birthday to Justin Davies, who will celebrate July 30 and happy anniversary to Janet and Allen Oickle of White Rock, who are celebrating July 31.
The card party for July 22 had another great turnout with 11 tables in attendance. Gary Farris won the gents’ first prize and Leo Spinney won second while Karl Pick won the low for the evening.
Ladies’ first went to Helen Schofield, and Jean Spinney won the ladies’ second. Audrey Keddy won the ladies’ low prize.
Willie Goler won the door prize and Mary Coldwell won the traveler while Dick Weir won the 50/50 and was kind enough to donate it back to the hall. Dick and Marie Weir donated the prizes for the evening. It was another fun-filled night for everyone.
A correction to last week’s report for the men’s first prize is needed. I reported that John Lloyd won the men’s first when, in fact, it was John Griffith. Sorry for the mistake.
Vegetables gardens are in full swing now too with the sun and rain that we’ve had lately. Remember to eat your vegetables, everyone. It will help keep you healthy and it will help the pocket book, too.
Talk to you next week.
