Donations aid VRH Maternal, Child Care Unit
The Maternal and Child Care Unit at Valley Regional Hospital is reaping the benefits this year of last year’s 2007 Festival of Lights fundraising campaign organized by the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.
Approximately $110,000 was raised through donations from individuals, businesses and groups throughout the Valley during the campaign. These funds were used to purchase replacements for aging and outdated equipment used for the care of mothers and their babies.
To-date, the unit has purchased an isolette, birthing bed and overhead warmer, with a second overhead warmer ordered. Most of this equipment is already in use.
“The generosity of Valley communities means new babies and their mothers benefit from the best equipment available. This equipment also supports the work of the professional health care team. In May and June this year, 174 babies were born at Valley Regional Hospital,” says Sue Daniels, Manager, Maternal and Child.
In order to create a more relaxed and home-like atmosphere for patients and their families, staff hope to locate artists willing to donate their time and talents to design and paint attractive murals in a number of patient rooms. Interested artists can contact Daniels at Valley Regional Hospital.
