Balser turns greens to gold
To no one’s surprise, Anne Balser picked up another trophy Sunday, winning the ladies championship at the Digby Pines Golf Club.
Balser, 20, is having a strong year on the links. She finished fourth at the NSGA Royale Women’s Amateur championship that ended July 12 at West Pubnico, and she was a member of University of Victoria golf team that won the national university women’s championship in May.
If she keeps it up, she may someday surpass the Pines record set by her mother Wendy, a seven-time winner of the club championship.
Balser turned in a two-round total of 145 to win the Winnie Sabean Memorial trophy on Sunday, easily defending her first club title won last year.
The overall low net champion was Teresa Joyce, with a total of 133, and senior champion was Lorna Ward, with 178.
Other winners were:
• 1st division - first low gross, Jill Balser, 159; second low gross, Sue Edwards, 188; first low net, Wendy Balser, 127; second low net, Irene Hattie, 142.
• 2nd division - first low gross, Pat Potts, 198; second low gross, Andrea Sabean, 211; first low net, Linda Dakin, 144; second low net, Rosemary Anderson, 149.
