A fire on Sunday in Milton yielded an interesting discovery when those responding to the fire discovered Marijuana plants.
Constable Grant Webber with the Queens RCMP said that the plants were not in the area of the blaze so at this time there is no connection. Currently there are no suspects.
Milton Fire Tower spotted the fire around 1 p.m. on the right hand side of Milford Street (Moose Hill) about 500m in.
Fire crews from the Liverpool Department and the Department of Natural Resources, including a helicopter, spent three hours battling the blaze.
Mike Silver with the Department of Natural Resources in Queens said lightning did not start the fire.
“We are fairly certain it was human caused,” said Silver.
Currently there is a ban on open fires in Nova Scotia, which could remain in effect until September unless the province receives significant rain.
“We would want several days of long rains,” said Silver, adding that one day of quick rain would not be enough.
Silver is confident however, that our fire crews are ready if there is another blaze.
“I think we’re in pretty good shape. Crews are all set and ready to go, but hoping they won’t have to,” he added.
People still should be cautious, reminded Silver. If you start any kind of fire, you are responsible for it, he added.
The fire ban rules are no open fires in wooded areas or within 305 metres of woods. Otherwise individuals face fines up to $50,000 and corporations up to $100,000.
