LeBlanc, Balser leading women’s Amateur
Two Digby County golfers are leading the NSGA Royale Women’s Amateur championship following play Thursday at West Pubnico Golf and Country Club.
Mireille LeBlanc of Meteghan River, and Anne Balser of the Digby Pines club, were the only players to break 80 in the second round, with both turning in scores of 79.
The round was disrupted for two hours by heavy rain, fog and lightning.
LeBlanc, 20, shot a seven-over 79 and holds a six-stroke lead over Balser, a gap opened during the first round Wednesday when Balser took a 12 on the par-5 15th hole.
The 20-year-old Balser just finished her sophomore year at the University of Victoria where she was a member of the golf team that won the national university women’s championship.
LeBlanc is entering her senior year at Jackson State University in Mississippi, and said she was happy with her play over the opening two days. Play ends tomorrow.
Ken-Wo’s Laura Harris, in her bid for a third Amateur crown, sits seven shots back after a second-round 83.
