Museum set for summer season
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Yarmouth County Historical Society, and the staff, volunteers and summer students at its museum and archives, 22 Collins St., are preparing for what they hope will be a busy summer.
On July 5 author and artist Bill Crowell opened his exhibit of oil, watercolour and acrylic paintings in the education wing. Many paintings depict scenes of Nova Scotian history, such as the arrival of the Planters in Yarmouth, the Loyalists at Annapolis Royal and the privateers off Shelburne County. The show runs until Aug. 30 during regular museum hours.
On July 7, 8 and 9 – Yarmouth County Historical Society member John Wainwright leads a walking tour of Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are free, but must be picked up in advance from the Museum on Collins Street.
On July 19 the annual garden sale takes place on the grounds of the museum and Pelton-Fuller House. It begins at 9 a.m. sharp and runs until approximately 2 p.m.
From July 21 to July 25 during Seafest there will be talks at the museum each day on a variety of subjects from costumes to ship paintings at 3 p.m. The Shanteymen perform on Wednesday July 23.

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the archives are closed between 12 and 1 p.m. The museum is also open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
