Grade 9s leave Berwick with awards, recognition
The Grade 9 graduation and junior high closing was held June 26 at Berwick and District School.
Dwight Johnson brought greetings on behalf of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and principal André Tessier spoke briefly about the many events and highlights of the year, thanking students, teachers and parents for their support of each other and of the school; before presenting certificates to graduating students.
A gift was presented to Mexican exchange student Dominique Boyance Uribe.
Vice-principal John Verran conducted the presentation of awards and prizes.
The Kristin Rainforth Memorial Award, presented for citizenship and a strong work ethic to a Grade 6 student, was given to Malcom Surette.
The Public Speaking award was presented to Teddy Hicks.
Entrepreneur Awards, on behalf of the Western Kings Board of Trade, were awarded to Lauren Clark, Robert Trites, Cole Morrison, Nic Lightfoot, Dexter Pulsifer, Jason Schofield, Emma Pulsifer, Sterling Kelly, Erika Frost and Jon Gray.
The Paul Bethune Memorial Award, provided by the Berwick and District Lions Club, was presented to Lauren Clark.
The Most Improved Awards are provided by Saunders Insurance and were presented to: 7M - Allen Haayer, 7S - Tyler VanderHoning, 8F - Eden Tertsakian, 8S - Mary Belliveau, 9H – Paige McGory, 9O'B - Saul Tobin.
The Citizenship Awards, provided by Laurel Chapter #67, Order of the Eastern Star, were awarded to 7M - Sarah Morrison, 7S - Stefan Mogensen, 8F - Hannah Burke, 8S - Morgan McGory. Citizenship Awards, sponsored by the Berwick and District Lionettes, went to 9H – Sterling Kelly and 9O'B- Lauren Bernasky.
The Bill Wilson Leadership Award was awarded to Lauren Page.
The Berwick & District School Award, representing the St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge #43 went to Lacey McKenzie. The Berwick & District School Drama Award, sponsored by Berwick Community Theatre, was presented to Ali Giffen-Johnson and Bailey Lonergan. The new Drama Director's Award was presented to Greg Palmer.
The Principal’s Award presented for outstanding dedication to the school community was presented to Bailey Easson and Jason Schofield.
The Highest and Second Highest Standing Awards, provided by the Ortona Branch 69 Ladies Auxiliary, went to 7M -1st. Ashley Spicer, 2nd -Brandon D'Eon, 7S - 1st- Nicole MacEachern, Brianna Northcutt, and Katelyn Schofield, 2nd - Tyler Penny. The Larsen Memorial Awards for Highest and Second Highest Standing went to 8F -1st - Hannah Morse, 2nd - Matthew Margeson, 8S - 1st - Alyssa Crossland and Jessica Egan, 2nd - Sadie Woodworth, 9H - 1st - Lauren Page, 2nd - Greg Palmer, 9O'B - 1st Jason Schofield, 2nd - Sarah Hicks and Dexter Pulsifer.
