Hello, everyone. The warm weather is here, but I don’t know whether to be happy about it or not. I really don’t know how people live with this type of heat all the time. I imagine we will be spending some time at the lake soon.
The card party for July 1 was another successful and fun night with 11 tables in attendance. Ladies’ first went to Rita Lloyd while Charlotte Allen won ladies’ second. Charlotte also won the door prize.
Don Woodworth won the gents’ first prize and Blake Spinney won second. Blake also won the traveler prize and gave both of his prizes back to the hall for another evening.
Vi Griffith won the ladies’ low prize and Darren Hutchinson the low for the gents and the 50/50 prize, too. Ken and Zelma Long and Elaine Schofield donated the prizes. Apparently the crowd had their own form of fireworks when the lights were turned off at the end of the evening and a colorful light was turned on. Everyone had a great laugh.
Soccer is in full swing with practices and games taking place. Come out and support the various age groups and cheer for the pursuit of fun.
Summer hockey leagues and camps will start in a few weeks. Don’t forget to register if you plan to. I know that the Acadia summer hockey league starts Aug. 9 and continues until Sept. 14. There are various age groups; no body contact; and the Acadia Axemen will be there for support and coaching.
You can register online, in person or by mail. There is also a summer hockey league in Kentville at approximately the same time as well as various camps.
Justin Schofield has been selected to play on Team Nova Scotia’s Under-19 Provincial Fast Ball team when they go to the 2008 Canadian Midget Tournament in Brantford, Ontario from Aug. 3-10, 2008. He will also go to Prince Edward Island to play in the North American Fast Pitch Championship in Charlottetown from July 5-12, 2009. This is a great accomplishment. His family is very proud. Congratulations, Justin.
Happy birthday to Twila Young, who celebrated July 7. Happy birthday also goes out to Diane Ells, who celebrates July 9. Kirk Long (I think) is celebrating his birthday July 11.
Congratulations to all the students for another successful year of school completed. Perhaps someone could let me know who graduated this year and I can put that information in next week. My nephew Ben Sanford graduated from high school this year and is now looking ahead to his future endeavours.
That’s all I can think of for now. I must go; have a great week everyone and I will talk again next week.
