Camp allows young writers chance to explore craft

Young writers will have an opportunity to work with professional writers during the Kids Can Write Camp at the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial from Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18.

Hosted by Western Counties Regional Library, the fourth annual writing camp is for youth aged 9-15 and is a joint effort with Write Away, Yarmouth’s writing group.

There will be morning sessions from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and afternoon sessions from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. led by members of Write Away. Participants are expected to attend all sessions and are asked to bring a lunch, except for Friday when lunch is provided and a reading of the participants’ work will take place.

The camp will cover writing for theatre, creating emotion, using imagination and dreams, revising one’s writing, and verbally presenting one’s work. There will be a public reading by participants on the final afternoon of the camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Students will have to pre-register as space is limited. There is a cost of $15 per person for the whole week and participants should register by Wednesday, July 9.

For further information, contact Yvette Frost at the Yarmouth branch of the Western Counties Regional Library at 742-5040 or visit www.westerncounties.ca.
