Region offered to take part in trade mission
With a Scotish accent and a bit of Nova Scotia slang, Ian Russell pitched the idea to council at the June 16 meeting of taking part in a trade mission to Scotland in 2009.
“It’s very interesting, Mr. Russell has a track record and has worked with Digby Town and the Municipality and I believe one or more of the towns within Kings County taking a trade mission to Scotland earlier this year,” said Region of Queens Mayor John Leefe. “He made it very clear to us in his view there is opportunity for smaller municipalities to attract businesses with a consequence of having a focused trade mission.”
Russell’s presentation focused on tourism opportunities in addition to other opportunities, which the South Shore and the Region of Queens can take advantage of, continued Mayor Leefe.
Describing the presentation as “engaging” the mayor stated, “we of course have not taken a decision on whether or not to participate, but it is certainly something we want to discuss.”
The region will also talk to their municipal colleges that have already taken part in a trade mission.
