June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued MORRIS, John William Bernard "Jack" - Dayton, Yarmouth Co., passed away June 10, 2008, in Yarmouth. Born on April 8, 1923, in Drayton, Ont., he was a son of the late James and Beatrice (O'Reilly) Morris. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lynda Lee (Horton) Morris; sons, Michael John (Frances) Morris, Dayton; J. Patrick Morris (Connie Boudreau), Dayspring; daughter, Janice Maria Morris, Dayton; grandchildren, Katie Bea, John Paul Kenneth (Dawn), Kara Gayle; great-grandchildren, Keegan Alexander and Claire Ann Frances. Also surviving are sister, Anna Mae Eckert; sister-in-law, Doris Morris, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by brothers, Leo Morris, Cyril Morris, and sisters, Margaret Badke and Mona Heit. Jack volunteered during the Second World War and was trained and graduated as a fighter pilot in the RCAF. Posted to Yarmouth, he served with the No. 1 Naval Air Gunners School. He served overseas in England. He volunteered to serve in the Theatre of War in the Pacific. Following his discharge, he studied cosmetology in Montreal and for many years was the owner/operator of Powder Puff Beauty Shoppe and Milton Beauty Shoppe. He continued his studies at Acadia University and taught cosmetology for many years at the Nova Scotia Community College, Burridge Campus. Jack and wife, Lynda built and operated Doctor Lake Camping Park. He was also a wood lot operator and loved working in the woods and hunting. Jack was very involved in church, community and business organizations. He serve as usher, Eucharistic minister and member of parish council at St. Ambrose Parish, volunteer for The Arthritis Society, president of the Yarmouth Lions Club and Deputy District Governor, former member of the Knights of Columbus, president of the Yarmouth County Tourist Association, member of the Yarmouth County Industrial Commission, member of the East Camp Veterans' Association, president of Churchill Cemetery Company, charter member and president of the Nova Scotia Hairdressers' Association, president of the Nova Scotia Campground Owners' Association, member of Tourism Industry of Nova Scotia (TIANS) and president of Forchu Forest Management Group. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a natural born teacher who is affectionately remembered by his former students. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours were held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13 in St. Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson presided. Burial immeidately followed in Churchill Cemetery, New Road, Dayton. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued ANTHONY, Jean E. “Betty” - 77, of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, June 10, 2008. Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hazel (Wentzell) McLeod. In her early years, Betty worked at the Best Yeast Plant in Brooklyn. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church and the A.C.W. She was also a member of the Salvation Army, Liverpool Corps as well as the Home League Ladies Group for many years. Betty was a writer of poetry for over 50 years and her work has gone to many countries. She was a member of the Literary Club in Liverpool and a member of the Senior Citizens’ Group and the Program Directory. She is survived by her grandson Scott (Shelley) Roy of Mersey Point; godson Gary Porter of Brooklyn and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lynwood; daughter Mary; sister Marie; infant brother Marshall and brother Cecil. Funeral Service was held Saturday, June 14, 2008 from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool. Rev. Donald Lawton officiated. Burial was in Milton Community Cemetery following cremation. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued SAGLOSKI, Margaret Louise - Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia on August 17, 1917, daughter of the late Andrew Norman and Margaret (Ryer) Norman. Mom passed away peacefully on June 11, 2008 at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, and is survived by her daughter Susan and her husband Michael O’Connell; grandson James O’Connell; granddaughter Kathryn and her husband Chris Vowles; and her dearly loved great-grandson Nate all of London. One of ten children, Mom leaves two sisters, Betty Minard and Myra Wiles, both in Liverpool. Predeceased by her sisters Myrtle, Daisy, Aileen, Phyllis and Barbara and by brothers Morris and Douglas. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Liverpool, Nova Scotia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would gratefully be accepted to the Arthritis Society of Canada. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued Rev. Ronald T. Sabine, Sr., 91, of Moncton, N.B., died peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2008, surrounded by members of his loving family. With his wife by his side, Rev. Sabine ministered to his congregations, taught school for more than 50 years and was active in local and civic affairs. He was dedicated in his drive, integrity and caring for parishioners, students and community. He was married to the late Lulia ‘Lu’ Bessie (Ryder) Sabine for 59 years. She predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by his son, Ronald T. Jr. and his wife Linda of Moncton; three daughters, Elizabeth L. Sabine, Calais, Vermont; Cheryl A. Ross and her husband Gregory of Brampton, Ont.; Pamela L. Sabine and her husband Gary Racine of Salisbury, N.B. He also leaves his grandchildren, Ronald T. III and Sarah L. Sabine, Paul T. (‘PJ’), Trevor B. Reinhardt, Brian J. T. and Lindsay P. Ross. Two brothers, John F. and Rev. Ralph L. Sabine, predeceased him. He is survived by their wives, Winifred Sabine of Perth-Andover and Mary Sabine of Somersworth, N.H. He loved and was deeply loved by his family. We honor and miss you this Father’s Day. Born in Port Maitland, N.S., he was the son of the late Rev. Leonard T. and Laura F. (Boyd) Sabine. He attended a number of grammar schools as his father moved throughout the Maritimes and Maine as a minister. A graduate of Fredericton High School, he went on to receive his teacher certification from the Provincial Normal School in 1935. He graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, Mass., receiving his bachelor of arts degree in 1943, and bachelor of theology degree in 1944. In 1945, he and his brother Ralph were both ordained as ministers at Beulah Camp, with the honor of having their father perform the ordination. Later in 1966, when two daughters were attending college, he graduated from McGill University where he earned his bachelor of divinity degree. In 1974, he earned his bachelor of education degree from the University of Moncton. He began teaching in the rural Woodstock area of New Brunswick and his first rural church was the Reformed Baptist Church in Salem – Killam’s Mills circuit, where he also taught grades 1-9 in a one-room schoolhouse. It was in Salem, where he met and married his wife Lu on January 29, 1945. His next assignment was the Havelock Reformed Baptist Church in Nova Scotia, followed by the Seal Cove RB Church in Seal Cove, Grand Manan. Rev. Sabine transferred to the Church of the Nazarene denomination in Trenton, N.S. He was a high school teacher and/or vice principal in Brookfield, N.S., Three Rivers, Quebec City, McMasterville, and Longueuil, Que. He served Methodist churches in the parishes of Whitefield, N.H., Bradford and Plainfield, Vermont, and Granville Parish, N.Y. He returned to the Maritimes, teaching in Hillsborough, N.B., and at the time of his retirement he was a teacher at Harrison Trimble High School in Moncton. During these latter years as a minister of the United Church of Canada, he served churches in Alma, West River, Hopewell Hill, Riverside-Albert and Hillsborough. During his tenure as a minister, he combined teaching with ministerial duties and served the Conference in capacities of College Board, Home Mission Board, statistician, youth president and president of ministerial associations. He was recommended to Who’s Who in Religion in America. He served in the Gideons and Rotary Clubs. He was an officer in the Cadet Services of Canada, served as a cub master and scoutmaster, played collegiate hockey and basketball, coached high school hockey, and was a political activist. He and his wife Lu sang musical duets in their churches. His avocations included music, playing hockey, genealogy, reading, golfing, and he was a lifelong sports enthusiast. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, on Saturday, June 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, on Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m., with Rev. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued Alma Ethel MacNeill – 89, formerly of Fundy Villa, Berwick and Kentville, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on October 19, 1918 in Marshalltown, Digby County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Byron and Ethel (Trask) MacNeill. She graduated with a Commercial Diploma from I.C.S. and had been employed as a bookkeeper for many years with Valley Creamery Limited, Kingston, F. W. Robinson Limited, Kentville, Scotian Gold Co-operative, Kentville and Ron Illsley Motors Limited, Kentville, from where she retired. She had been a dedicated member of the Kentville United Baptist Church, where she was faithfully involved with the Ethel Fenerty Mission Group, taught Sunday School, served as Church Clerk, and served as a member of the Deacon’s Board and the Stewardship Board. She also held Provincial and Dominion Life Memberships in the United Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, was a member of the New Horizons Seniors Club, and was a volunteer for many years with the Valley Regional Hospital. She will be remembered for her many wonderful scrapbooks. She also spent many hours keeping her mind active with crossword puzzles. Alma was a well-loved aunt and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her nieces, Margaret (Dixon) Smith, Dartmouth; Betty (Lovett) Everett, Sydney; Ruth Sekulich, Pickardville, Alberta; nephews, Larry (Marilyn) MacNeill, Braeside, Ontario; Edgar (Pat) Strong, Round Hill, Annapolis County; Clyde (Eileen) Strong, Deep Brook, Digby County; many grand, great grand and second great grand nieces and nephews; many good friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Annie (MacNeill) Strong; her brother, B. Lloyd MacNeill; nieces, Evelyn Strong and Lorna (Strong) Greenbury. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend John McNally officiated. Burial took place at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 in the family plot in the Hillgrove Baptist Church Cemetery, Acaciaville, Digby County. Family flowers only, by request. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued Dennis Newton - 83, New Minas, formerly of North Wallace and Shinimicas, Cumberland County, passed away peacefully, early on the morning of January 16, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lincolnshire, England, followed by a move to Australia, and at the age of nine moved to Canada with both his parents, Herbert & Dorothy (Chambers) Newton. He proudly served for Canada in the Second World War. Denis was a successful Dairy Farmer in both North Wallace and Shinimicas He is survived by his current wife, Hazel Newton, son, Ronnie (Sharon) Newton; daughter, Gwen (Stirling) Harris; step-daughter, Susan (Ken) Silver; grandchildren, Nicole Harris, Darren Newton; Danny (Agnieszka) Newton; great-grandchild, Chase Lee; two step-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Willma (MacFarland) Newton. Dennis will be greatly missed by his family and friends. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued Gerald Adrian “Jerry” Rice – 56, of Beaverbank, passed away surrounded by his family, Friday, June 13, 2008 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Truro on October 31, 1951, he was a son of the late Clifford and Agnes (MacPherson) Rice. He was raised in Kentville and spent each summer at the family cottage in Kingsport, a place very special to him. He graduated from Horton High School and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He was stationed in Deer Lake, Corner Brook and Holyrood, Newfoundland. Jerry and Sharon then transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where Jerry worked Halifax Detachment, Cole Harbour Detachment and was involved with the integrated police services in the Halifax Regional Municipality. He served as Court Liaison Officer for more then 10 years, from where he retired. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Oakfield Golf Club. He was also an avid history buff and enjoyed working out at the gym. He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Mary Adair; two sisters, Dorene (Gary) Cleveland, Kentville; Sister Betty-Lou Rice, Mount Saint Vincent, Halifax; mother and father-in-law, Edward “Jim” and Evelyn Adair, Petitcodiac, New Brunswick; sister-in-law, Cass Rice; brother-in-law, Clayton (Susan) Adair; several nieces, nephews and four godchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, JoAnn Rice Radford and a brother, James Rice. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued LeRoy Ernest Connors - 75, of Grand View Manor, formerly of South Waterville, passed away Friday June 13, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Black Rock, he was a son of the late, Harvey and Retta (Gould) Connors. LeRoy worked as a bus driver for Perry Rand Ltd. in Kings Co., for approx. 30 years. He farmed all of his life on the family homestead. LeRoy will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his granddaughter, Tara. LeRoy is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Connors, Cambrdige; son, George, Halifax; daughter, Sheila (Richard) Pierik, Cambridge; granddaughter, Tara; brother, Robert (Gladys), Rockland; sisters, Elizabeth (Henry) Chapman, South Waterville; Violet (Everett), Dalton, Prospect; Doris Usher, Waterville; Margaret Pynch, Waterville; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, LeRoy was predeceased by his brother, Donald; sisters, Barbara and Thelma; brothers-in-law, Ira Usher and Gerald Pynch. June 8 to June 14, 2008 continued DAVIDSON, Muriel Marguerite (nee Farquhar). It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Muriel, on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 83 years. Born on October 22, 1924, daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Adams) Farquhar, of Summerville Beach, Nova Scotia. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Davidson of 60 years. Muriel’s memory will be cherished by her children Don, Lynden (Michael) Cowan and Randy (Charlene) Davidson. Step-mother of Laurie (Lorna), Geneva Dean, Marie (Jack) Malloy and Dennis Davidson. Grandmother to Diane Davidson, Amy (Thomas) Ransom, Michelle Cowan, Robert Cowan. She is survived by brothers Eugene (Geraldine) Farquhar, Ron (late Joan) Farquhar and numerous relatives in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Predeceased by brothers Clyde (surviving wife Ruth) Farquhar and Don (surviving wife Alma) Farquhar. Muriel was a member of Floral Rebekah Lodge #369 (I.O.O.F.) and also a member of Beaux-Arts Brampton. Over the years, she was involved in Boy Scouts, contributor to numerous newspapers, coordinator of the Obstetrical knitting program at Peel Memorial. Muriel was very involved in genealogy research, first for family and then worldwide assistance, including publications. She was instrumental as the head of the Canadian Census Committee in getting the Canadian Government to release the 1911 Census (allowing the release of family information for future generations). This earned her an awarding of an Order of Canada Year of Volunteers award presented by Senator Lorna Milne. Funeral Service was held in the Scott Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 13, 2008. Interment Brampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Muriel’s charity of choice is Multiple Sclerosis and also Beaux-Arts Brampton (Brampton Art Council).
