Fights, vehicle hit and runs, and an email scam

During the period of May 26 to June 8, the Yarmouth town RCMP detachment received 148 calls for service. This included: 10 mischief, 11 causing a disturbance, two dangerous driving, nine assaults, six Mental Health Act investigations, three break and enters, four drunk in a public place, five motor vehicle collisions, nine false alarms, eight misdialed 911 calls or hang-ups, six thefts, one counterfeit investigation.

This is a summary of some of the calls.

•May 26, 12:39 p.m., received a complaint of causing a disturbance involving two individuals fighting near the Tim Hortons on Main Street, officers attended.

•May 26, 2:25 p.m., report of property damage at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery on Forest Street. Two gravestones and been pushed over. The stones were not damaged.

•May 26, 3:45 p.m., call from Water Street of two black Jettas racing side by side near the ferry terminal heading south.

•May 27, 3:15 p.m., report from Queen Street that a shed had been broken into overnight and various electronic devices, such as speakers and a tape deck, had been stolen.

•May 28, 3:18 a.m., noise complaint from Prescott Street. Officers attended and had subjects turn down the music.

•May 28, 9:14 a.m., an adult male was arrested in front of the Time Out Lounge on Main Street for public intoxication.

•May 29, 6:43 p.m., received a call from the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for assistance to deal with an aggressive patient. Officers attended and dealt with an adult male.

•May 30, 12:42 p.m., report from Ryerson Court of several male and female teens reportedly throwing rocks at houses. Officers attended, subjects gone on arrival.

•May 30, 8:29 p.m., vehicle hit and run in the Yarmouth Mall parking lot. A white Sunfire had left the scene.

•June 1, 2:22 a.m., received a call of a vehicle hit and run at Main and Parade streets. Suspect vehicle was an S-10 extended cab. Still under investigation.

•June 1, 8:48 a.m., detachment alerted to a traffic hazard on Vancouver Street, near Water Street, involving downed electrical lines. Patrol was made. Nova Scotia Power was contacted.

•June 3, 9:38 p.m., received a 911 call reporting that a person had refused to leave Rudders restaurant. Officers attended and located an intoxicated male in the parking lot who was arrested for being drunk in a public place and released the following day.

•June 5, 8:57 a.m., received a report from a Starrs Road business of a possible counterfeit $20 bill. Still under investigation.

•June 5, 12:27 p.m., received a call from the Main Street Tim Hortons reporting that a group of people was standing outside the entrance with dogs. Officers attended, dealt with the situation.

•June 5, 5:25 p.m., call from Ford Avenue reporting that a male teen was driving around the streets on an all terrain vehicle.

•June 6, 10:50 p.m., received a 911 call of a gasoline leak at the Petro-Canada station on Haley Road. Officers determined one of the gas pumps had broken. Gas was leaking into a huge area of the parking lot, Officers assisted the fire department with traffic control.

•June 7, 12:35 p.m., possible mischief complaint from Grantham Street reporting young people with slingshots. Officers attended and dealt with situation.

•June 7, 7:30 p.m. received a 911 call from Green Street reporting an altercation between two females on the street.

•June 7, 8:48 p.m., received a complaint that a person had received death threats via e-mail by an unknown person. The person had been told to send an amount of money right away and if they did they would not be killed. Through an investigation involving PhoneBusters an officer determined that this was a fraud.
