The second annual Barrington River Log Run has rolled close to $4,000 into the coffers of Forest Ridge Academy elementary school.
The event, which took place on June 7 as part of the Lobster Festival, saw 500 numbered mini-logs dumped into the Barrington River to float beneath Highway 3. The first (#67) to cross the “finish line” was owned by Darla Nickerson of Clyde River. Nickerson, who has a son in Grade Primary at the school, received $500.

Organizers came up with the idea for the log run as an alternative to raising money for books, field trips and bus trips, after a food policy was introduced that prohibited selling chocolate bars as fundraisers.

Principal Mike Smith agreed to give each staff member and all 207 students at the school a chance to plunge him in a dunk tank if a goal of 450 was met.

“Everyone supposedly gets one crack at me. I’ll assume I’ll be dunked more than once,” said Smith.

He’ll be climbing into the contraption the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17.
