He’s become a familiar face in thousands of homes across the country. Silver specialist for the Canadian Antiques Roadshow, Granville Ferry’s Roger Crowther is donating his time and appraisal skills to help a local cause.

On June 14, he will be at the Bridgetown United Church for the Best End of the Valley “Antiques Roadshow,” which will raise money for renovations to the kitchen in the church hall. The public is invited to bring in their antiques for an expert opinion, and stay to enjoy an array of fantastic desserts and refreshments.

Although Crowther’s specialty is silver, he is also willing to look at items such as metal objects, small furniture, paintings or prints, dishes, candlesticks, pocket watches and clocks.

While the objects themselves can be interesting, the best part of the job is hearing the stories that people bring with them. On 14 the space will be set up in such a way that people waiting to see Crowther can listen in on the other appraisals.

“What’s even more interesting is what is the thing they have brought in in relation to them?” he says. “I’m more interested usually in the people than in the things.”

Best End of the Valley “Antiques Roadshow” runs from 1 to 4 p.m. For the cost of $5, each person is allowed to bring in one or two objects.
