Fire scares Jordan Bay residents
A small forest fire in Jordan Bay caused some concern on Thursday night and some residents were put on evacuation alert.
The fire broke out around 4:15 p.m., in a wooded area about 300 yards from the nearest home. At its peak the fire covered about 30 hectares and although the wind was high, it blew in a direction away from the community.
Fire crews from Shelburne, Jordan and Ohio were called in and with the help of Department of Natural Resources ground crews and two DNR helicopters, were able to put out the fire later that evening.
