PHOTO ESSAY: DUCK, DUCK, LOOSE: VON duck race

The VON held its duck race and annual walk-a-thon on Saturday and the VON said the two events were considered to be very successful.

The events raised $14,000 for the VON.

While the walk-a-thon has been a VON fundraiser for 38 years, the duck race is a newer event. Hundreds of numbered rubber ducks – which were purchased right up until minutes before the race started – were dropped into the water by the Milton dam. The race to the finish line was neck and neck and neck until duck 296 pulled away from the pack.

Corporate ducks: 1st place: Johnson Insurance;

2nd place: Register.com;

3rd place: Tri-County Construction;

4th place: Grant Thornton.
