Revered soccer expert gives coaching clinic at Acadia
He’s a Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, he’s the most experienced FIFA coaching instructor in North America and he’s Canada’s first-ever national goalkeeping coach.
Dick Howard gave a clinic for soccer coaches presented by the Axemen Soccer Supporters Club at Acadia Arena in Wolfville on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10.
He gave a presentation called “The World of Soccer” to coaches on Friday evening and presented practical coaching sessions on Saturday. Several local youth players and members of the Axemen who participated in the practical session Saturday received some very valuable pointers, too.
Howard, a TSN sports analyst revered as a seasoned World Cup soccer journalist and broadcaster, began his professional playing career with Chester FC in England in 1965 and concluded in 1976 with the Boston Minutemen of the North American Soccer League.
Among several other professional accomplishments, Howard has written several coaching manuals, co-authored a book on soccer with the late Ben Wicks and was a soccer columnist for the Toronto Sun during the 1990’s.
