Annapolis Royal mayor resigns

Annapolis Royal Mayor John Kinsella stepped down as mayor of the town April 21 citing health reasons. Following is his letter of resignation to council:

April 21, 2008

Dear Members of Council,

I am resigning the office of Mayor for the Town of Annapolis Royal effective today, April 21, 2008 for health reasons. It has been a pleasure to serve on Council since 1992. I served from 1992 to 2000 as a Councillor and from 2000 to present as Mayor.

Deputy Mayor Jane DeWolfe has agreed to take on the responsibilities of the office for this term of office. I am doing this with the knowledge that a special election will not be required as this resignation falls within the 6 months time limit of the election date.

I have very much enjoyed my service to this community. I am grateful to the members of Council, the staff of the Town of Annapolis Royal and the citizens of this community for their support over the years.
