Figure skating AGM

April 8

The Yarmouth Skating Club will be holding their annual general meeting on April 8 at 6 p.m. at the Mariners Centre. Nominations will be accepted from the floor.

A dart tournament will be held at the Carleton Legion, Branch 167, at 9:30 a.m. April 12.

Spring Fling

Meadowfields School Spring Fling will be held Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Circus theme, bounce castles, fish pond, dino dig, face painting, mock jail, silent auction, Chinese auction and more. Admission $1, under 5 free.

Yard sale

April 12

There will be a large yard sale Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Yarmouth Junior High School parking lot. If inclement weather: in the Junior High gym. Funds raised go toward the Grade 9 French students educational class trip to Quebec.

Festival of praise

April 12

The Yarmouth Branch of the Canadian Bible Society will present an Ecumenical Festival of Praise with special music and a message from the president of the Nova Scotia district at St. Ambrose Cathedral on Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. Free will offering will be taken for Bibles for Seafarers to be distributed in the Halifax area. Social time to follow in the Jubilee Room.

Dance and silent auction

April 12

A dance and silent auction fundraiser for the Black Ice Volleyball Club will be held at the Rodd Grand Hotel on Saturday, April 12 at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at City Drug, UPS Store or at the door.

Open mic/washers

There will be a free open mic with Blue Country at Le Club Acadien in SAR on Friday, April 18, at 8. And on Saturday, April 19, at the club there will be indoor washers ($5 a person, teams picked at 7.) Members and guests.

Flea market and bake sale

April 19

A flea market, bake sale and face painting sessions, sponsored by the Yarmouth Lionettes, will be held at the Yarmouth Lion’s Club on Saturday, April 19, 8 a.m. to noon.

South Ohio spring tea

April 19

Spring tea at the South Ohio Community Centre on April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults $4, children 12 and under $2. Bake table and book sale. Anyone wishing to donate or help can call Emily Lent at 742-4723.

Gospel concert

April 19

The Salvation Army Yarmouth Community Church will be the scene of a gospel concert featuring local talent on April 19 at 7 p.m. Free will offering will be taken. Proceeds for roof repairs for the Rose of Sharon Church.

The annual ratepayers meeting of the East Pubnico Fire Department will be held at the East Pubnico fire hall at 2 p.m. April 20.

Earth day presentation

April 22

Enviro-friendly lawn solutions, chemical-free care, alternatives to lawns will be the subject of a presentation by the Tusket River Environmental Protection Association on April 22. There will be a skit, DVD, resources, discussion, coffee. At the Beacon United Church parlour at 7 p.m.



Lunch meeting

Pot luck lunch and meeting for the Nova Scotia Government Employees Association, Region 10, Saturday, April 26, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Yarmouth. Lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by meeting at 1 p.m. Members are welcome to bring a guest.

The Yarmouth Community Chorale’s spring concert “Come to the Celebration” will be held Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 at Beacon Church, Yarmouth. Tickets at the door.

Dance

May 3

There will be a dance at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 in Wedgeport, 9 p.m. to midnight. The music will be by the Claretone Reunion Band.



Spring coffee party

May 10

Sponsored by the Keystone Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star at the Masonic Banquet Room, Hebron, from 10 a.m. to noon. Will be serving muffins, biscuits, scones, doughnuts, cheese, jams, tea and coffee for $3.50.

Rug hooking class

Beginners and beyond rug hooking class will begin in early April. Pick up registration form at Hands on Crafts or telephone 902-742-2468. Date and night will be determined with students who register.

Volunteers are needed to fill several positions on the Yarmouth Red Cross Emergency response Team in Yarmouth. Focus on providing relief assistance to people in the community who have experienced a personal disaster or responding to a medium or large scale disaster. Training provided. The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info at 902-742-7141.

Bridge and other card games are held every Thursday afternoon at the South Ohio Community Centre from 1-4 p.m. Light refreshments served. Admission $2.
