The Brooklyn Fire Station officially reopened Tuesday, March 25, and just in time. A propane leak forced a dozen homes in the Ellershouse area to be evacuated to the fire Hall Thursday, March 27, after a propane deliveryman inadvertently attempted to fill a tank that was already at capacity.

Brooklyn Deputy Chief Andy McDade said the evacuation was just a precautionary measure in case of explosion, but that no one was injured during the incident. Mutual aid was called in from the Windsor, Summerville and Hantsport stations, as well, as the Kings County HAZMAT Team. Residents were hosted at the station from approximately one p.m. until 5:30 that afternoon.

In the case of such a leak, McDade said the best they could do is to seal the tank and disperse the vapors with hose lines until the company arrived to deal with the situation. The tank in question was not attached to any structure and the company responded quickly to the situation.
