A fundraising concert for the Queens County Girls Choir and the Zion United Church will feature the Elliott Chorale Choir from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.
The concert takes place 7:30 p.m. April 5 in the Zion United Church.

“In 2006 they were in the semi finals in the CBC national radio competition for amateur choirs, which is a really big deal,” said Queens County Choir director Kristopher Snarby about the Elliott Chorale Choir. “This year they’ve made it into the finals and they’re one of I think two choirs in the Maritimes to make it that far.”

He described them as an 18-voice chamber choir directed by Dr. Gayle H. Martin.

The fundraiser dubbed, “Cantantes Unido” will also include performances by the Queens County Girls Choir.

Elliott Chorale will perform Latin American songs, said Snarby.

This is just one of the choir’s stops along Southwest Nova Scotia, he adds.

The Queens County Girls Choir will split the proceeds with the Zion United Church.

Snarby said they hope to use their money to go on a trip next year and of course for music.

The Elliott Chorale Choir and the Queens County Girls Choir will take part in an afternoon workshop before the concert.

Snarby said a lot students in the New Brunswick Choir want to become professional musicians or teachers so the Queens County Girls Choir will be their “guinea pig” for the afternoon.

“They’re a great group and they are bringing a lot of different music here and it would be great for Liverpool to show up for it,” stated Snarby.

Tickets cost $7 and can be purchased from choir members or by contacting Kristopher Snarby at 354-3296 or by email at qcgirlschoir@yahoo.ca.
