Greenwood and Kingston-area residents affected by recent flooding are invited to a public meeting March 27.
Kings West MLA Leo Glavine is co-hosting the gathering with Kings County Councillor Diana Brothers and the Greenwood Village Commission.
“The purpose of the meeting is two-fold,” explains Glavine. “People living along the Annapolis River and in low lying areas will get some good information about how to cope with and respond to flooding incidents, and we will investigate whether local people can make a claim for damage.”
Representatives from the provincial EMO office, the County of Kings and provincial departments of the Environment and Fisheries have confirmed attendance. Glavine is also hoping the Department of Transportation will take part.
While he doesn’t have a dollar value for local damage from heavy rains and snow run-off in mid-February, Glavine estimates there was considerable damage to both personal property and public infrastructure.
“There are no guarantees, but we need to communicate information about the process and the potential for compensation.”
The meeting gets underway at 7 p.m. in the RCAF hall at the Greenwood Civic Centre.
