Public cautioned to watch for counterfeit bills
Five possible fake bills reported during month
The RCMP is issuing an alert to the public to be diligent in checking their currency following five reports of possible counterfeit bills in Yarmouth this month.
The currency in question has been $100 and $5 bills. The bills that have been seized by the RCMP have been sent to a lab in Ottawa to determine if they are indeed fakes.
The RCMP says if people have doubts about currency they are handling, they should check the security features, check with a financial institution or contact the RCMP.
The bills that have surfaced in the area have been at two financial institutions, a government business and two private businesses. The RCMP says at this point there is nothing to suggest that the person(s) who passed the bills necessarily knew that they were possible counterfeits.
