Gilbert Purcell Forsythe - 60, Kentville, passed away on March 6, 2008, in Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Gilbert P. and Abbie (Brown) Forsythe. Gilbert worked for many years with the Dominion Atlantic Railway (DAR). He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. Gilbert is survived by sons, Gilbert (Renee) Forsythe, Coldbrook and Jody (Leanne) Dunbar, Halifax; daughter, Misty (Dale) Hancock, Coldbrook; sisters, Lorraine (Cecil) Bardell and Gloria (Stan) Parker, both of New Minas, grandchildren, Sophia, Maddison, Ainsley, Robyn, Christine, Cheyenne, Kaitlyn, Chase, Clay, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gilbert was predeceased by his wife, Judy (Graves) Forsythe and son, Shayne Dunbar-Forsythe. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family memorial held at a later date with interment in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory of Gilbert may be made to the Salvation Army, Kentville. HAZEL - Winfred Thorton “Bub”, 94, of Walton, Hants County, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at his home. Born March 3, 1914, in Scotch Village, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Clarence and Eva (Sanford) Hazel. In his early years, Bub worked for Parsons Construction, Walton, starting at a dollar a day. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas in the Canadian Army. He and his wife formerly owned and operated a General Store in Walton, during the 1950’s and 60’s. Bub worked as a heavy equipment operator with Maritime Sand & Gravel and also as a mechanic with Danny Myer’s Equipment. He had also owned a Back Hoe business, Dartmouth, and retired in 1978, as an instructor, at the Heavy Equipment School, Stanley. He was an avid Flea Market enthusiast. Bub is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Avis Mildred Cox; sons, Leigh (Martha) Hazel, Ymir, British Columbia; Gerald (Faye) Hazel, Beaver Bank; grandchildren, Leigh Hazel Jr.; Susan Johannessen; Trudy Berukoff; Trevor (Christa) Hazel; Tanya (Dean) Evong; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Maxwell, Sarah, Jonathan, Grace, Brooklyn and Dayne; sister, Greta Sanford, Windsor; sister-in-law, Edna Hazel, Walton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Patsy Hazel; grandson, Michael Hazel; sister, Madge Parker; brother, Merlton “Chub” Hazel. There was no visitation at his request. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, in the Chapel of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. DEAN, Theresa Louise, 1949 – 2008 passed away unexpectedly at her home in Milton, NS. She is survived by her loving spouse John R. O’Hurley; mother Patricia L. Corcoran of Sydney, BC; son Kelly and Stephany; daughter Erin Louise Dean of Victoria, BC; granddaughter & new grandson Casey & Jared Dean and cousins Janet & Brian of England. John’s Brother Gary Grace of Caledonia, ON flew down and was a great help and support in this troubling and painful time. Our neighbours Peggy Airey, Bonnie Wong, Dick & Marguerite Cole, the Hatt family, Marintin & Myles of Morton House, Tammy Dunsmore and family, and John & Nancy Leefe. Thank you for your love and understanding. Therese loved Nova Scotia and its wonderful people. We both felt we had come home at last.

EVERETT, Arden R., 79 - of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, March 7, 2008. Born in Digby, he was the son of the late Oscar and Myrtle (Whynot) Everett. In his early years, Arden worked in the dairy industry and was an employee with Canadian Tire. He was employed with the Town of Liverpool from 1956 to 1968 in the electrical department and moved on to the Nova Scotia Power until 1973 when he started his own business; “Arden and Sons Electrical Limited.” He incorporated the business in 1980 and handed the company over to his sons in 2007 after 34 years. Arden enjoyed the out of doors especially nature, hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener and planted vegetables and tended to his blueberry bushes which he took pride in every year since 1953. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat (Soper); sons: Brian (Corrine) of Western Head, Phillip (Dianne) of Wilmot, Wade (Kathy) of Hunts Point, Darrin (Janice) of Mersey Point; grandchildren: Brian (Erica), Sara, Aaron, Kelsey, Sydney and Adrian; step-grandchildren: Josh, Chantal, Andrew, Shea and Ceilidh and step great grandson Drew; sisters: Helen McNutt of Oshawa, ON, Marjorie (Moyle) Crouse of Bridgewater, Edna of Liverpool; brother Lloyd (Betty) of Milton. He was predeceased by a sister Eleanor and brothers: Clayton, John, George and one in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service was Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Zion United Church, Liverpool. Pastor Richard Bristo officiated. Burial was in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. BANKS, Paul Burton – 77, of Millville, Kings County passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Reginald and Kathleen (Annis) Banks. In his earlier years Paul worked in Glace Bay for several years and also for Irving Oil Limited and Petro Canada for 25 years. Later, he and Violet retired home to Millville in 1985. Paul and Violet loved to travel and after her passing in 1990, he continued to travel for many years. He was also an avid reader and a good friend to many and he will be truly missed. He is survived by his sisters, Olga Dalgleish, Edmonton, AB; Rowena Banks, Montreal, Quebec; brothers, Roland (Shirley) Banks, Tremont; Milford (Rose) Banks, Enfield; David Banks, Edmonton, AB; several nieces and nephews and was blessed to have kind and loving neighbours in his life, Mary & Milton Palmer, Millville. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, the former Violet Stingle. By request, there was no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held in the Morristown Cemetery. Rev. COLYER, Elizabeth Anne "Betty", 61, of Falmouth, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 in the Hants Community Hospital. Born November 2, 1946, in Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Vivian (Culling) Allday. Surviving are her loving husband, John of 33 years; brothers, Robert (Marie), Howie Center, Cape Breton; Raymond, Dartmouth; sisters, Bev (David) Grady, Pettiwawa; Joan (Bill) MacMaster, Truro; several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by a sister, Jo-anne. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street.; where a memorial service was held 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008. Mervin St. Clair

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband and father. Mervin St. Clair Nickerson, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary after a two month illness. Born in Woods Harbour, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Ella (Smith) Nickerson. He worked at his grandfather’s boat shop most of his young life. He started working for CN Marine in 1968, where he was employed until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church, Treasurer of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and was an active member of the Barrington & Area Ground Search and Rescue up until his hospitalization in December. Besides his wife of 49 years, Crystal (Crowell), he is survived by four daughters, seven grand-children, one great grandchild and six step-grandchildren, Wilma Crowell (Clayton, Krista, Corey, Dustin, Angelina), Donna Malone (Scott Mahaney, Jerica, Asia, Dallas), Nancy Crowell (Shannon Newell, Paula, Robyn, Adrien) and Sheree d’Entremont (Dennis, Alexa, Karmen, Kirkland and Katia); two sisters, Ivy Swaine, Shag Harbour, Norma Dugas, Yarmouth; one sister-in-law, Mabel Nickerson, Shag Harbour and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Irwin, brother Glendon and a sister, in infancy. Funeral service was held at Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church on Sunday, March 9, 2008 with Pastor Steve Bean officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Upper Woods Harbour. Wilfred Seymore Oickle - 74, Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Friday March 7, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Gale & Marjorie (Beals) Oickle. Wilfred retired in 1985 after many years of employment at Larsens Packers, Berwick. Surviving are his wife, Helen B. (Creemer) Oickle; sons, Lewis (Susan) Oickle, Aylesford; Lawrence (Vicki) Oickle, Berwick; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold (Rose) Oickle; Meadowvale; sister, Reta Selig, Edmonton, Alberta. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Everett Oickle. There was visitation for Wilfred, 7-9 p.m. Monday March 10, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service took place 2 p.m. Tuesday March 11. Pastor Kay Dean D.M. officiated. Burial was in the Aylesford Union Cemetery and a reception to follow in the Millville Community Hall.
