Organizers are already planning on making Yarmouth’s most popular festival bigger and better than ever, but they need your help.

“Seafest has become known as a signature event but now it’s going to be one with pizzazz says director-at-large Denise Nickerson.
“We have people to help with the different events but we need sub-committees. We need help in whichever way, shape or form,” she said.

The festival has been extended by several days and now runs from July 16 to 27 in order to incorporate more events.

The Parade of Lights, Lobster Festival, Cook’s Chowder Cook-off, Dragon Boat races at Lake Milo and the July 27 Leisure Services beach day are some of the events on schedule.

New this year is a pot art contest with participants decorating lobster traps (either wooden or wire). Seafest will be winding down with a Bountiful Sea thanksgiving service and closing ceremonies complete with a bonfire.

Nickerson says there have been many occasions where extra hands could have helped out a lot to organize some of the events.

“For instance last year I did the lobster boil on Alma Street. It would have been great to have had somebody to help with the running around,” she said.

Those interested in volunteering with this year’s festival can attend the next Seafest meeting at Rudders Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub on March 27 at 6:30 p.m. , or call 742-2802 or email ellispress@eastlink.ca
