Women’s centre hosting open house to mark International Women’s Day

The Tri-County Women’s Centre, 238 Main St., is hosting an open house on March 8 to mark International Wiomen’s Day.

International Women’s Day is a day when people around the world take time to reflect and celebrate the achievements of women. Strong Women Strong World is the theme for this year.

The open house will be from 10 until 2with light refreshments available over the noon hour. Discussion on various aspects of women’s equality will be facilitated, starting at 10.

International Women’s Day (IWD) can be traced to the early labour movement when female textile workers demanded better working conditions and to the suffrage movement when women demonstrated for the right to vote. In 1979 the United Nations adopted a resolution inviting countries to dedicate IWD to the rights of women and international peace.
