Peewee house squad wins tournament in shootout
The Novi Boat Brokers peewee house team came home with the championship banner after competing in the Bob Morgan Memorial Peewee House Tournament in Digby over the weekend.
With the score tied, the championship game between the Yarmouth squad and the Middleton Mustangs went into a five-minute sudden death overtime. At the conclusion of overtime the teams were still tied at 4-4, forcing the game into a shootout.
Five players from each team were picked for the shootout. The only player to score was Riley LeBlanc, giving Novi Boat Brokers the win and the championship banner.
Atom A Mariners split a tie, loss with Acadia AA team
The Wedgeport Kwik Mart Atom A Mariners tied the Acadia AA Atom team 1-1 in a game played at Acadia University on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Matthew Hines scored the Mariners goal, assisted by Cameron Wallace and Cole Jacquard. Colby Muise was in net.
On Sunday, Feb. 24 the Acadia AA team blanked the Atom A Mariners 3-0 at the Mariners Centre.
Clare Lions advance in N.S. Jr. C playoffs
The Clare Lions topped Valley Keiths 6-2 on the weekend to sweep their best-of-five first-round series in the Nova Scotia Jr. C hockey playoffs.
Daniel Arsenault and Marc Lombard each scored two goals for the Lions and Jacques Lombard and Jordan O'Leary each added singles. Jeremy McKinnon picked up the win in net.
Clare will face Barrington in the next round of the playoffs. The Ice Dogs also swept their series, topping the Yarmouth Admirals three games to none.
