A 56-year-old New Minas woman is in hospital in Halifax following an early Tuesday morning blaze that destroyed her mobile home.
New Minas firefighters responded to a call to Sawler’s Mobile Home Park in the southern part of the village at 5:19 a.m. the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Fire Chief James Redmond told The Advertiser later that day that the fire had been called in as a structure fully engulfed, with an entrapment.
But, when firefighters arrived at the scene, the occupant, who was a tenant in the older model mobile home, was on the front step having just escaped the structure.
Redmond said the victim was sent to the Valley Regional Hospital and has been reported to have been sent to Halifax with smoke inhalation. She is in possible serious condition.
Redmond said that the blaze is still under investigation, but “it’s not considered suspicious at this time.”
The front part of the mobile was gutted and the rest had suffered heat damage. It’s apparently not reparable.
The structure was insured by the owner.
