Thaw, flooding won't deter Windsor Winter Carnival
It will take more than rain to dampen the spirit

Even after torrential rains flooded the man-made skating rink at Elmcroft Park, destroying weeks of work, Windsor recreation staff says it’s business as usual -- and this year’s Winterpalooza still promises to be the best.
Acting recreation director VanEssa Roberts said it is unfortunate and sad that the rink and park flooded just days before events were planned for that location.
“Everything was fine until about noon yesterday when the rain started,” she said. “All I can say is this is typical of Nova Scotia weather. Mother Nature doesn’t always co-operate but you have to work with what you have.”
She said there will still be tons of activates for families to enjoy during the weekend event, and fingers are crossed that the free skates may be one of them.
Recreation department programmer Jim Lambert says he’s crossing his fingers in hope the flooded area will freeze overnight. “Hey, the way I see it is God just gave us a natural rink. If we get a good frost tonight, and it freezes we’ll still have a place to skate.”
And though there’s no controlling the weather, Lambert said all the Winter Carnival events are adaptable.
