Amero rink splits final games at Junior nationals
The Kelsey Amero-led rink had a tough road at the Canadian junior men’s championships Feb. 3-10 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
In its final games last Friday, the Nova Scotia representatives downed Northwest Territories 8-4 in the morning draw, but lost 7-6 to Northern Ontario in a game played for pride. With three wins and nine losses, the team was well out of the weekend’s championship games.
Amero, a 19-year-old native of Digby now studying at Saint Mary’s University, won the Nova Scotia junior men’s championship Jan. 7 with a team he put together at the Mayflower rink in Halifax this winter.
To get to the nationals, the Amero rink downed two-time junior champion Dominic Daemen and his rink.
With Amero on the Nova Scotia are teammates Adrian Anctil, Cameron MacKenzie and Justin Burns.
Nova Scotia finished ahead of teams from the Yukon and the Northwest Territories-Nunavut.
