Barrington resident Marilee Ross sympathizes with those who are struggling to make ends meet, especially during the winter.
“As you know this time of year is most difficult for people who are struggling with power bills, medical bills and most of all heating bills,” she said.

With this in mind, Ross decided to organize an event that should at least help fill empty bellies.

The Food For Shelburne County Fundraiser starts at 7 p.m. at the Barrington Municipal High School on Feb. 23. Proceeds will be directed towards three Shelburne County Food Banks: the Lockeport Food Bank, Wood's Harbour Food Bank and the Shelburne Loyalist Food Bank.

When Ross started asking entertainers if they’d contribute their time and talent for the event she was thrilled with the response.

“I spoke with local musicians, Lynn Crowell and her Evergreen Trio Band. She gave me an instant answer of Yes!” said Ross.

“Chett Buchanan and his band Winsome Blues also said yes instantly. I thought it was great so I went on and asked Warren Amirault and his group (Kyle Smith, Murray Townsend, Donald d' Eon and Paul Bower). They also said yes. So ME reaching for the stars, thought to contact Dwight d'Eon. He said yes he would do it, knowing it is for an excellent cause,” she said.

In addition to the performers, many other individuals and organizations are volunteering for the event.

The Barrington Search and Rescue will be handling security. The Barrington 7E Fire Department is helping with the seating.

Paster Shaun Hatfield will be the master of ceremonies, Patrick Burrill will be assisting as the sound technician and Sterling Belliveau will be presenting a resolution for Lynn Crowell honoring her for her induction in the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame.

Representatives from local food banks will be talking about their organizations at the function.

“Free will” cash donations will be collected at the door, which will open at 6:30 p.m.

All the money collected will be dispersed among three food banks in Shelburne County.

“With the wonderful talents scheduled for this event it will be a great night of entertainment for Shelburne County for a very good cause,” said Ross.
