Lions raise $2,000 for Special Olympics
Ex-pro’s win 12-6
The ex-pros won 12-6 but the big winners were the Clare Special Olympics.

The Clare Lions raised $2000 for the Clare Special Olympicswhen they played a team of former professionals and stars from the NHL, AHL, Major Junior and at the CIS-AUAA level on Saturday night, Feb. 2 at the Université Sainte-Anne arena.

The ex-pro team included Keith Delaney, an immersion student at Université Sainte-Anne and a former draft pick of the Florida Panthers; Dennis Vial formerly with the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers; as well as Norm Batherson who played pro in Europe and in the AHL with the Portland Pirates.

Hughie Batherson, vice-dean at Université Sainte-Anne and co-organiser of the event put together the team of ex-pros.

The 350 fans in attendance were delighted at the first intermission by a 10-minute game of IP and Novice level players from Clare’s minor hockey program.

During the second intermission, Allyre Comeau and Jean-Louis Saulnier won a shoot out compeition for lobster prizes courtesy of Riverside Lobster & Seafood.
