The Digby Curling Centre was rocking last weekend.

Digby hosted 13 Senior Mens teams competing for a spot at the provincial curling championships.

The South Zone qualifier started Friday, Feb. 1 and kept the ice busy until Sunday, Feb. 3.

Digby had an entry at the tournament – Keith Ring curls with Pete Comeau, Edwin Comeau and Ian MacKenzie. They went 0 for 3 on the weekend.

Two of those losses came right down to the last rock.

“We had some really close games,” said Ring. “It was a great weekend. We would have liked to have done better at the competition. But the ice was excellent. The guys here were really working hard to have the best conditions possible.”

Ring said it was good for the Digby club to show other curlers just how great a facility we have and how good the ice is.

“We have a few invitationals so now hopefully some of these guys will come back. And maybe they’ll tell people at their clubs about us. It all helps.”

Eight teams advanced from this tournament and eight teams also advanced from a 14-team North Zone tournament held in Truro over the weekend.

The 16-team Senior Men’s provincial curling championships take place in Liverpool from Wednesday, Feb. 13 to Saturday, Feb. 17.

Digby scores (Keith Ring, Pete Comeau, Edwin Comeau and Ian MacKenzie)

Ring vs Jack Robar (Mayflower in Halifax) 5-7

Ring vs Gary Thorbourne (Liverpool)

6-8

Ring vs Arthur O’Connell (Barrington)

6-10
