Schrader, Fairy A. - 85, of Liverpool passed away peacefully in Halifax Infirmary, Sunday, January 27, 2008. Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late William and Meadie (Shupley) Roy. Fairy was a former employee of Queens General Hospital working in the cafeteria for 10 years. She liked to talk on the telephone to her friends, play the keyboard and sing and she loved pets. Fairy is survived by her daughters, Gail Brewster (Dale Wentzell) and Barbara Murphy, both of Liverpool, Jennie Chapman of Prince Rupert, BC; son Brian of Liverpool; sisters, Marie Wolfe of Milton, Anna Whynot of Liverpool and stepsister Shirley Thornborough of Ontario; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Virgil and granddaughters Helen and Sherry; sisters: Elizabeth, Meadie, Nancy, Emmaline, Dorothy, Pearlie, Dolly, Susan, Hazel, Ruth; brothers: William, Stanley “Hank”, John, Gordon and Ross; stepmother Uda (Hirtle) Wentzell. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A funeral service was held Saturday, February 2nd, 2008, Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Majors Henry and Beatrice Bingle officiated. Donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, the Halifax Infirmary, or the Salvation Army. Stewart, Allan Roy - 76, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, formerly of Brooklyn passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27, 2008. Born in Milton, he was the son of the late Stanley Allan and Marjorie (Streeter) Stewart. Allan worked as an electrician for Bowater Mersey for many years and was well liked by his fellow workers. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. In his earlier years, Allan enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, waterskiing. playing hockey and baseball. In his later years, he enjoyed trips in the motor home and traveling on his motorcycle as well as renovating a summer home in Broad Cove. He was a member of the Pilgrim United Church Men’s Group and sang in the Men’s Choir. Allan is survived by his wife Rhoda Belle (Anthony); daughters Ann of Chelton, P.E.I. and Catheryn of Victoria B.C. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A funeral service was held Thursday, January 31st, 2008 at Pilgrim United Church, Brooklyn. Gordon Richard Carter – 84, of Somerset, Kings County, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Viewmount, Kings County he was a son of the late George and Irene (Stensrud) Carter. He was a lifelong farmer and together with his late son, David owned and operated a beef and vegetable farm. He served as a member of Kings County Council for several years and held the position of Warden. Gordon was later awarded the Jubilee and Confederation Medals for significant community service. He also served as chairman on a number of Berwick Home and School Associations as well as the former Kings County Amalgamated School Board. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Western Kings Memorial Hospital in 1960, during the construction of the new hospital and served on the board of the Kings County Hospital, Waterville. He was a director of the Berwick Arena Association, Kings Mutual and served from 1974–1976 as president of the Berwick Board of Trade. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Kings West. He was a member and former Warden of Christ Church, Berwick. He judged at the Lawrencetown Exhibition. Gordon was also active in the organization of Berwick Gala Days and enjoyed calling at local wrestling events held in Berwick. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Keddy; a daughter, Linda (Gerry) Hiltz, Coldbrook; two sons, Lindsay (Wonda), Somerset and Mike (Louise), Kentville; a daughter-in-law, Frances Carter, Somerset; two sisters, Mary Hirtle, Viewmount and Jean Tucker, Kentville; 10 grandchildren, Heather Wagner, Angela Shay, Janice Carter-Sanford, Lori Carter, Andrew Carter, Megan Hiltz, Margot Hiltz, Rebecca Parks, Erin Carter and Michelle Carter; two step grandchildren, Melanie MacDonald and Rocky Reid Jr.; three great grandchildren, Brett Carter, Cameron Shay and Allison Shay; two step great grandchildren, Keely–Shay Reid and Cole MacDonald; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special extended family members, Brenda and Donald Garber and their children, Tracey Garber, Jen Ringuette, Joe Garber and the late Jeffrey Garber. He was predeceased by a son, David Carter; a daughter-in-law, Alfreda Carter; two brothers, George and Francis. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in Christ Church Hall, Berwick. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 in Christ Church, Berwick, The Reverend Charles Bull officiated. Burial took place in the Berwick Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only by request. Shirley Marie Harnish – 72, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Canning, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Lucille (Griffen) Lyons. She had been employed for many years as a secretary in the insurance industry, having worked with Nat James and Associates and Macdonald Chisholm Insurance. She was a former member of both the Canning Recreation Committee and the Canning Lionettes. She enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and was an active member of the Valley Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Griffith (Ralph Mutton), Lindsay, Ontario; Kim Pratt, Mississauga, Ontario; Kelly Harnish, Cambridge; a son, Troy (Colleen), Waverly; a brother, Lawrence (Doris), Mt. Uniacke; two grandchildren, Geoffrey and Ryan. She is also survived by her partner, David “Hoover” MacDougall, Cambridge. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 with prayers to be held at 8:00 p.m. both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Gerald Saulnier officiated. KIRBY, GEORGE ALBERT- 82, Lockeport, formerly of Lachute passed away in Roseway Manor, Sandy Point, Shelburne County, Sunday, January 27, 2008. Born in Lachute, P.Q., he was a son of the late Herbert and Amee (Renaud) Kirby. George received his early education in Kilmar, Grenville and Montreal and upon graduation of High School, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army, serving for a period of four years during WW11, three years of which were overseas duty. A resident of Lachute for 30 years, he and his wife resided on a 400 acre farm on the outskirts of the City of Lachute where they bred and raised beef cattle. Interested in local politics, he was first elected a councillor of the city of Lachute in 1971 and in 1975 elected Mayor of Lachute for a four year term. His association and varied experience, as well as his vast international travels, took him into many phases of the business world throughout his life. He was actively involved in community affairs, both social and economic, devoting considerable time towards the betterment of community. A member and past president of Branch 70, Royal Canadian Legion and Lachute Curling Club, as well as being a member of Seignory Club, Montebello, Lachute District Shrine Club and former director of the Lachute Association of Handicapped children. George was an ardent sportsman. George and his wife Lorna, have resided in the small fishing community of West Head, Lockeport, Nova Scotia, since the purchase of their home in 1989. Shortly thereafter, George purchased a small business- restaurant/ marina- that he owned and operated for four years. He became actively involved in the community through various volunteer committees and stayed very active and supportive in his love for politics, Kiwanis, Lockeport Crescent Beach Centre, the Anglican Church, West Head Harbour Authority and various other volunteer committees. George resided at Roseway Manor until the time of his demise. He is survived by his wife, the former Lorna Adele Giles. He was predeceased by brothers, Norman, Leonard (Joe), and Howard (Lyall); sister, Enid Thorburn (Toots). Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. Interment of ashes at a later date. A special thank you to the staff at Roseway Manor for their care and compassion. In memory of George, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society. For all those who were touched by his genuine kindness and selfless generosity, we are grateful to have been a part of his life, to soak in his wisdom, his love and his strength and courage. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

THIBODEAU, Charles William – 83, Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton, and formerly of Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2008 I the villa. Born October 28, 1924 in Pleasant Lake, he was a son of the late Charles and Annie (Rogers) Thibodeau. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving are his children, Barbara (Harold) Cochrane; Kevin (Janice) Thibodeau; grandchildren, John (Mary), Gary (Leanne), Donald, Michael, Leanne and Jason; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Lindsay, Emily, Tate, Corina, Grant, Jamie; brothers and sisters, Florence, Frances, Douglas (Joyce), Nelson (Margaret), Richard (Diane), Roderick (Heather); sister-in-law, Helen; brother-in-law, Hugh; his former wife, Alice (Doucet) Earle; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Michael; brothers, Edward and Theodore; a sister, Pearl; brother-in-law, Len. Lillian Joyce Farris – 75, formerly of Kentville, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, she was daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Sears) Babcock. She had been employed with Blueberry Acres for many years and was a former member of the Kentville Women’s League. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo. She is survived by her children, Jeffery Farris, Randall (Pauline) Farris, both of Kentville; Robert Farris (Frances), New Minas; Charles Lemon, Dartmouth; two sisters, Barb Babcock, Moncton; Gertrude Whalen, Shelburne; three brothers, Ronald, Buffalo, New York; Murray and Douglas, both of Ontario; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; three sisters, Ethel, Florence and Bernice; a brother, Clarence; a grandson, Randy Dean Farris. William (Bill) Thomas Gerrard, 77, of Digby, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Hamilton, Ont., he was a son of the late Joseph and Edna (Kropp) Gerrard. Bill served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 21 years, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Digby. He was also a member of the Digby Golf Club, which was one of his favourite pastimes. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Edith (Marshall) Gerrard; brothers, Joseph, Vernon, N.Y; Donald, Stoney Creek, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by a sister, Edna Reeves, and a brother, Gordon. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flora Bernice Murphy - 85, of Kentville, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in her home. Born in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Ada (Winter) Jones. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Centreville Congregation. She enjoyed doing puzzles and always enjoyed people coming to visit her. She deeply loved her grandchildren. Flora wasn’t afraid of hard work. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Flora is survived by her loving husband, Phillip Murphy; son; Perley R. Palmer, Berwick; daughters, Marjorie M. Perry nee Palmer, Vancouver Island, B.C., Beatrice M. Warren nee Palmer, Eastford, Ct., U.S.A.; brother, Sonny, sisters, Edna & Audrey, 9 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren.
