Shubenacadie Sam didn't see his shadow
It’s official. Spring is on its way. Natural Resources parks manager Bert Vissers says a downpour Groundhog Day, Saturday, Feb. 2, prevented the prognosticating rodent Shubenacadie Sam from seeing his shadow as he emerged from his lair. Had he seen his shadow, winter would last for another six weeks. He is the first North American groundhog to get to predict the weather on the honoured day. Sam’s prediction this year was in concert with a number of activities in and around Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, including 2008 RAMSAR World Wetlands Day.
