Memories of Barrington and Cape Sable Island in the early days will be the subject of West Pubnico author and speaker Laurent D’Entremont’s presentation on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Old Court House in Barrington.
The Cape Sable Historical Society invited D’Entremont, who says he will also be speaking about the connections between French communities and the rapport they share with English speaking communities.

“Most of what I will talk about is in my books ‘Stories to Remember’ volume one and volume two,” said D’Entremont.

“I’ll be describing growing up French in an English speaking world, going to Barrington as a small child with my father to see some of his friends like the Scotts who had the lumber mill and going to Cape Island when I was about eight, just before the ferry service closed.”

D’Entremont will also describe whittling lobster plugs and travelling to Woods Harbour with Stillman, the barber.

“Everyone treated him like a celebrity,” said D’Entremont, who can often be found in the summer volunteering at the Acadian Museum and Acadian Historical Village where he provides rides to tourists in his 1915 Model T or 1931 Model A Woody Wagon.
