Leadership needed at Warriors invitational
Liverpool Regional High School boys basketball coach Mustapha Maynard is hoping for more leadership during the team’s upcoming January tournament at home.
The second annual Warriors South Shore Invitational takes place Jan. 11-12 at the school.
Maynard says he would like to "see some leadership from the seniors and just some more fluent offense.”
The Warriors won their first tournament in November, he adds.
Six teams including Barrington, Lunenburg, Forest Heights, Parkview, North Queens and Liverpool Regional will take part in the competition.
At this point, the Warriors have had their "ups and downs," says Maynard.
The team consists of 13 players, with most in grades 10 and 11.
The first tournament game will see Liverpool take on Lunenburg 9 a.m. Jan. 11.
Refreshments will be offered along with a three-point competition during the tournament.
The Warriors South Shore Invitational admission few is $1 for students and $2 for adults with the proceeds going to the basketball team.
Tournament sponsors include Sobeys, Harvey’s Swiss Chalet, Atlantic Cat and Centum Mortgage Specialists.
The Warriors wrap up their season with a home game on Feb. 7.
The regionals start after that, says Maynard.
