Attempted armed robbery leads to morning manhunt

Windsor District RCMP were called to a Subway restaurant in the town early Monday morning in response to an attempted armed robbery.

At approximately 7:13 Dec. 31, a man entered Subway wearing a dark ski mask and demanded money. When he didn’t get anything he fled on foot and was last seen running under the Exit 5A overpass, Highway #101, toward Windsor.

RCMP say the man was armed, but are not releasing any information on the weapon at this time. RCMP were aided in their search by police dogs, but unable to locate the perpetrator.

Police are seeking assistance from anyone who may have seen or has any information about this individual. He is described as approximately six feet tall, slim build, possibly in his twenties, wearing a winter coat with mainly red on the bottom and possibly blue or gray on the sleeves and chest area, blue jeans and sneakers.

If anyone has seen a person matching this description, they are asked to call the Windsor District RCMP at 798-2207 or 798-8366. Anonymous calls can also be made to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

RCMP say there were no injuries. A young woman who was working at the time of the attempted robbery was not available for comment. She was sent home early. Staff at the restaurant said she was shaken by the incident. Owner Ricardo Dibacco would not comment, but the restaurant remained open for the day.
