Ninety-year-old collector gives 231 dolls to museum
A 90-year-old Queens County woman has donated 231 dolls to the Queens County Museum.
Verna MacDougall started her collection over 20 years ago when she lost her husband, saying, “It was just something to do.”
Most of the dolls are on display throughout the museum.
“We’re extremely excited about receiving such a donation,” said Queens County Museum administrative assistant, Kathy Stitt.
Being a seamstress all her life, MacDougall said she enjoys dressing the dolls.
She gave the dolls to the museum because “I wanted to be sure that somebody appreciated them,” she added.
The dolls will be on display but no definite plans have been established just yet, Stitt said.
MacDougall lives at Stone Haven Nursing Home in Port Mouton.
She said she also collected salt and peppershakers over the years.
MacDougall has three adult children.
