The Horton Subway Classic boys’ basketball tournament is down to a five-team round robin after three Metro teams cancelled out due to forecast poor weather on Thursday.
After C.P. Allen, Sackville and Cole Harbour all contacted Horton officials Thursday morning to cancel out due to snow and ice pellets forecast for later that day, the decision was made to proceed as a five-team event.
As of Thursday noon, Riverview High School from New Brunswick, North Nova from New Glasgow, Bridgewater (a previous replacement for Citadel High which had pulled out earlier in the month) and Halifax Grammar School all intended to still make the trip.
As well, Halifax Grammar agreed to twice play games back-to-back. As a result, the revised tournament schedule is now as follows:
Thursday: 2 p.m. North Nova vs. Bridgewater
4 p.m. Halifax Grammar vs. Riverview N.B.
6 p.m. North Nova vs. Halifax Grammar
8 p.m. Bridgewater vs. Horton
Friday: 11 a.m. Riverview vs. Horton
1 p.m. Bridgewater vs. Halifax Grammar
6 p.m. Halifax Grammar vs. Horton
8 p.m. North Nova vs. Riverview (as originally scheduled)
Saturday: 10 a.m. North Nova vs. Horton
12 noon Bridgewater vs. Riverview
2 p.m. Consolation (#3 vs. #4)
4 p.m. Championship (#1 vs. #2)
The opening ceremonies will still take place prior to the 8 p.m. game Thursday, and the Horton Sports Hall of Fame induction will still be held as scheduled Friday evening.
