Blaze extensivley damages Coldbrook home

Fire extensively damaged a Coldbrook home Wednesday evening. A neighbour spotted the flames coming from the large home on Princess Crescent at around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and called the Kentville Fire Department.
Department spokesperson Ian Fairclough stated in a news release that flames were coming from the roof when firefighters arrived on the scene. Mutual aid in the form of additional trucks and human resources was called in from departments from Hantsport to Berwick.
A rapid intervention team (RIT) from the Brooklyn, Hantsport and Windsor fire departments responded, as well. The RIT team is a group of firefighters with specialized training and equipment who remain on standby at a scene in case of an accident involving firefighters inside a building.
Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. The provincial fire marshal’s office investigated and has determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and started near the home’s electrical panel. Flames burned up an outside wall and into the roof of the home.
One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury fighting the blaze while a second sustained a hand injury and was taken to hospital for x-rays and treatment.
New Minas firefighters responded to a chimney fire on the Canaan Mountain Road Thursday evening, Dec. 13.
New Minas responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 101 Friday morning, Dec. 14. Chief James Redmond said one individual had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. Kentville firefighters responded as well. The “Jaws of Life” was utilized in the incident.
Wolfville firefighters responded to a motor vehicle rollover in Lower Wolfville at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Chief Tim MacLeod said there were no injuries.
Wolfville responded to a car fire on Main Street Dec. 12 at 5:42 p.m. MacLeod said it turned out to be a non-event.
Canning firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 221 in Sheffield Mills the night of Dec. 8. Firefighters had to utilize the “Jaws of Life” and airbags to extricate one person from a vehicle.
Department spokesperson Scott Cruickshank said the individual was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.
Canning provided medical assistance on Summer Street in Canning the night of Dec. 8; on Longspell Road in Kingsport Sunday morning, Dec. 9; on Pleasant Street in Canning the afternoon of Dec. 9 and on Medford Road in Kingsport Monday evening, Dec. 10.
Canning firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision in Scott’s Bay Monday morning, Dec. 10. Cruickshank said there were no injuries reported in the incident.
Canning responded to a smoke condition caused by a flooded furnace on Bains Road in Canning the evening of Dec. 10.
Canning firefighters responded to a false fire alarm sounding on Gospel Woods Road in Arlington the morning of Dec. 14.
