Nadira featured at fitness centre fundraiser
Marlin’s is hosting a fundraiser for the Queens Fitness Centre Dec. 15 in Liverpool.
From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. people will hear music by three different entertainers, two of which are locals.

The entertainment includes The Salt Water Cowboys, Dale Verge Doin’ Country and the Halifax group Nadira. The latter band’s sound has been described as a combination of Elton John, Sarah McLaughlin and Janis Joplin with the songwriting capturing the essence of “everyday life.”

Fitness centre Manager, Liz Boland is excited about the fundraiser. She says it would be exactly the same as it is every year.

There will be a bake table along with an auction table with paintings from local artists, lobster, shrimp, gift certificates, a twig chair and more.

A raffle on a Sobeys donated basket will take place in addition to drawings for two, three-month memberships to the Queens Fitness Centre.

“It’ll be a good time for people to come out,” added Bill Wolfe, who is on the Queens Fitness Centre board of directors.

There will be celebrity bartending as well.

Boland said the fitness centre tries to do two fundraisers a year.

All proceeds from Dec. 15 will go back to the fitness centre, added Wolfe.

“We’ll be purchasing a new piece of equipment or replacing a piece of equipment,” said Boland.

Tickets are $4.
