The Valley United U-14 boys’ and U-16 girls’ soccer teams improved to 4-1 on the season with shutout wins in Nova Scotia Soccer League play over the Dec. 1-2 weekend.
The U-14 boys blanked Halifax City 3-0, with Calum MacRae scoring twice and Jacob MacRae once. Matthew Lannan and Kieran Collins shared the shutout.
The U-16 girls had a relatively easy time with Cole Harbour, posting a 4-0 victory. Chantel Landry, Peggy Kenny, Ashley Walkinshaw and Carly Goodine had the Valley goals. Carrie Wood and Kennedy Bennicke teamed up for the shutout.
In other NSSL Tier 1 action Dec. 1-2, the Valley U-16 boys got back on the winning track with a convincing 6-2 win over Cape Breton, improving their season record to 2-3.
Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith and Alex Verge had two goals each for Valley and Robert Lannan and Chris Potter had singles. Miguel deMello and Cody MacArthur scored for Cape Breton.
The Valley U-14 girls weren’t as fortunate, dropping a 2-1 decision to Halifax County to fall to 3-2 on the season. Jillian Murphy had the lone Valley goal. Anthi Veletas and Emily Lerette scored for Halifax.
In the only other weekend game, the Valley U-18 boys played to a 1-1 draw with Cape Breton to remain unbeaten on the season at 1-0-1. Greg Theriau scored for Valley United while Chad Lefebvre found the net for Cape Breton.
The Valley U-18 girls didn’t play on the Dec. 1-2 weekend, but were back in action this weekend, along with the other Valley Tier 1 teams as part of a full slate of games.
