The West Kings and Horton boys’ volleyball teams put forth a good effort, but came up short at the NSSAF Division 1 boys’ championship Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 in Antigonish.
West Kings went undefeated at 4-0 en route to the final, only to drop a two-games-to-one decision to Sackville, which repeated as provincial champs. Sackville prevailed by scores of 11-25, 25-22, 15-11, avenging in the process a round robin defeat to West Kings.
In round robin play, West Kings topped J.L. Ilsley 25-21, 25-13, CEC 25-13, 25-15 and Sackville 25-23, 21-25, 15-9, then defeated Dr. J.H. Gillis 25-17, 25-18 in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Horton, last year’s provincial runners-up and this year’s Western Region champions (defeating West Kings in the regional final), also went 3-0 in the round robin. Horton defeated Dr. Gillis (25-20, 25-21), Auburn Drive (25-15, 25-14) and Halifax West (20-25, 25-22, 15-8) to finish first in their pool, but were eliminated from further competition with a 25-21, 25-21 loss to Sackville in the semi-finals.
