Isn't Panuke Rd. enough?
Letter to The Hants Journal
To the Editor:

My name is Melissa States and I would like to touch briefly on the topic of Stark Road. I read the issue of The Hants Journal for Dec. 6, 2007 and it says, "Stark Road is a safe haven for children to ride their bikes and go for walks, but it may change if the quarry is approved."

Why should this be approved? Isn't Panuke Road enough for these big construction companies?

I take that as a no. We, the community/residences of Panuke Road, have been dealing with these issues for the past two years and I personally think these tandem/dump trucks can find other means of getting to these roads without using our rural road.

We worry every day about these trucks: they drive fast, without caution; two of them cannot pass each other on any part of Panuke Rd.; and we have also had to move our bus stop to another location due to the fact that a dump truck couldn’t get stopped in enough time for the school bus.

Panuke Road is filled with a lot of children playing, walking to meet their friends, going coasting, doing normal kid stuff, and just going to meet the bus in the morning and afternoon. It’s very stressful when all you can do is worry about if the children are safe on the walk to and from the bus stop/school.

I think that we as community should stand together until they see what we can see. I also feel this will never be solved until it's too late and an innocent child loses his or her life due to these trucks.

I would like to take this time to thank you for reading about my concern/issues.

Sincerely,

Melissa States

P.S. Stay strong Stark Road!
