Mouth watering choir fundraiser
Residents can actually leave a Dec. 8 Queens County Girl’s Choir fundraiser stuffed with chili, gourmet desserts and the memory of angelic carols ringing in their ears with the words: ‘I just helped a worthy cause.’
The 11th annual Queens County Girl’s Choir Chili and Dessert Buffet is 5-7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Zion United Church in Liverpool.
Choir director Kristopher Snarby says the chili is a favourite, made from an old recipe that has “been used by the choir since the beginning.” He adds the gourmet desserts are mouth watering as well, which, in part, explains the popularity of the event.
“Tickets in advance are important because it is usually sold out a few days before.” They are $15 and are available from any choir member or through qcgirlschoir@yahoo.ca.
Snarby said parents and grandparents are primarily responsible for the popular meal.
Members of the choir will both serve and sing, and, at various points throughout the evening, perform as a complete group.
Snarby says the event is an important one for the choir, which is raising money “to help keep the choir going and establish a bursary program.
“Kids On The Move is no longer in Queens County,” he explains, “and some girls can’t afford to pay the dues.”
He says no long-distance trips are planned this year. “We’ll probably have a couple of trips within the province and possibly a choir exchange.”
He explains a choir from another community will perform in Liverpool with its counterpart here and vice versa.
