Checkpoints slated
RCMP have conducted close to 25 traffic checkpoints in the last week.
In recent checks, Sgt. Mike Holland said a number of tickets were issued in Berwick, Kingston, New Minas and Wolfville.
“We’re going to keep them up,” he warned, “and they’ll be concentrated throughout the county.”
Holland said, “our goal is to keep impaired drivers off the road during the holiday season.”

There were 91 reports made to RCMP in Kings County between Nov. 26 and Nov. 29.
Last Monday the theft of copper piping was reported from White Rock.
A complaint of an ATV trespassing on private property was received from Baxter’s Harbour.
A New Minas driver failed to pay for gas at noon time. A fight was reported in Hall’s Harbour at 1:40 p.m.
An unwanted guest was being bothersome in Bennett’s Bay and later in the same village a firearm was reported stolen.
A Wolfville business reported a case of fraud and shortly afterward a break-in to a laundry room was reported in the community with damage to the coin slots.
Speeding on Aalders Ave. in New Minas was noted. A residence was broken into in Greenwich.
An adult couple were shoplifting in Kingston at 5:22 p.m., then two more were spotted in New Minas.
An argument was reported in Aylesford at 7:41 p.m. An impaired driver was caught on Commercial St. in New Minas.
Early Tuesday morning, an overdose brought police out for a medical emergency.
At 4:38 a.m. police in Wolfville discovered an insecure business premises. A theft from a vehicle was reported from Centreville.
At 10:50 a.m. police responded immediately to a panic alarm rung in by a senior citizen. The panic was triggered, not by an intruder, but by a son coming to visit.
There was a theft from a vehicle in Gaspereau and a hit-and-run in a parking lot in New Minas.
Police were called after youth near Exhibition St. in north Kentville were using rocks with rackets. A disqualified driver was stopped in Kingston at 4:17 p.m.
There was a minor collision in North Alton and police were called to a fire on Collins Rd. in Port Williams.
An abandoned vehicle was reported in Grafton. A two-vehicle collision occurred in Kingston. A break-in took place on Cornwallis Crescent in Coldbrook.
There was an assault in New Minas at 9:36 p.m. A report of open liquor came in from Commercial St. in New Minas at 11:45 p.m.
Early last Wednesday morning, there was an incident of vandalism in Greenwich.
A vehicle was damaged while parked at the Festival Theatre lot in Wolfville.
A deer collided with a vehicle on Highway 1 in Coldbrook. There was a theft at a New Minas business.
A young male was reported for knocking over a mailbox in Centreville. A theft was reported from a home in north Kentville.
A Greenwich resident reported a disturbance that took place the previous night.
A man was arrested for stealing recyclables outside homes in New Minas at 1 p.m.
Shoplifters were stopped in New Minas at 1:27 p.m.
A one-vehicle collision occurred on English Mtn. Rd. in Coldbrook at 2:45 p.m., then there was a two-vehicle crash in Greenwich.
Two male shoplifters were caught in New Minas. Later in the day, four more were apprehended.
A vehicle and a deer collided on Highway 101 near Wolfville at 5:20 p.m.
A theft was reported from a business in New Minas. Last Thursday morning there was a theft from the construction site on Wickwire Ave. in Wolfville.
At 12:39 p.m. a purse was turned in to police in Wolfville.
There was one domestic incident and a mental health incident. There were a total of 22 false alarms due to a malfunction at one local business.
