North Queens wins basketball tournament

North Queens wins basketball tournament
It was a victorious weekend for the North Queens Spartans after winning the Nettie Benedict Memorial Tournament Nov. 23-24 in Caledonia.
A total of six teams entered the tournament, which took place at North Queens Rural High School.

Teams included Park View, North Queens, Forest Heights, Shelburne, Barrington and Annapolis West, said North Queens Rural High School Athletics Director, Jeff Sylvester.

The Spartans played their first game Friday afternoon against Park View winning 83-51.

Annapolis West lost to Shelburne 70-56 in game two.

In game three Forest Heights defeated Park View 56-46.

North Queens played the final game Friday night against Forest Heights, he said, with North Queens winning 84-38.

First to play on Saturday was Barrington and Annapolis West.

Barrington came out on top 68-48.

Park View played against Annapolis West in the consolation game, with Annapolis West defeating Park View 70-67.

Sylvester said Barrington won third place after defeating Forest Heights 53-50.

North Queens took on Shelburne in the championship game, coming out on top with a score of 78-59.

“It was a wonderful weekend,” said Sylvester.

He would like to thank everyone who helped make the tournament a very successful event.

Tournament All Stars went to Shelburne players Ben Locke and Jarret Holdright, he added.

The MVP was North Queens player T.J. MacNutt.

The North Queens Basketball coaches are Gavin Martin and Ryan Merry, with Tanya Merry as manager.
