Two structure fires in Kings County last week are under investigation.
The first was an apartment complex fire on Highland Avenue in Wolfville Oct. 29. Wolfville Fire Department and the Wolfville RCMP responded to the call around 6:15 p.m. The fire was concentrated in one of the four units, which sustained smoke and structural damage.
RCMP and the provincial Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the fire to determine its origin. However, as pointed out in a news release from the RCMP, this fire is not related to any of those in New Minas currently under investigation.
The Canning Fire Department and the Kings RCMP responded to a suspicious fire at a vacant cottage on the Old Baxter’s Mill Road in Baxter’s Harbour Oct. 31. A neighbour alerted firefighters to the blaze around 9:30 p.m.
No one was in the cottage at the time. Damage appears to be extensive. Although it hasn’t been established exactly what caused the fire, it appears to have been deliberately set. The Kings RCMP General Investigation Section was called in to assist in the investigation.
Canning Fire Department spokesman Scott Cruickshank said Port Williams and Hall’s Harbour provided mutual aid. Hall’s Harbour Fire Chief David Watson said his department sent a tanker to help with the water supply.
