It’s one of the most substantial drug busts in the county in years. Police have charged a Gospel Road man under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as a result of a search and seizure at a Hall’s Harbour property Oct. 12.

Exercising a search warrant for the property, Kings RCMP reportedly seized in excess of 500 pounds or 300 kilograms of dry cultivated marijuana. Police say the seizure equated to approximately 1.5 million to three million marijuana cigarettes off the street.

Kings RCMP spokesman Cst. Les Kakonyi said, “it’s substantial. We don’t know its actual standing at this point, but it’s definitely one of the top 10.”

Police laid charges relating to production and possession for the purpose of trafficking cannabis marijuana, a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), against a 62-year-old man. As well, CDSA charges are pending against two Hall’s Harbour women.

Along with the marijuana, police seized a large quantity of cash and two firearms. As well, they took possession of two vehicles. RCMP Proceeds of Crime Unit personnel who attended the scene are investigating possible charges under this act.

Police held the male suspect in custody over the Oct. 13-14 weekend. He appeared in Kentville provincial court Monday, Oct. 15 and Judge Claudine MacDonald scheduled him to return Nov. 26 for election and plea. He was released on bail.

The other suspects have court appearances in Kentville Nov. 26.
